Oppskrift for federerte søk i OVID - ved hjelp av “use”

Oppskrift mottatt fra Dave Kaunelis i CADTH, Canada:

You can limit a single search line within a search to a specific database or databases by using the Ovid field codes assigned to each database. Ovid database codes can be difficult to find so I have listed the codes for all databases that CADTH subscribes to (see end of this message). For other database, you may need to contact Ovid for the field code.

Removing duplicates:

First, prepare and save your individual database searches separately. Then open all the databases you have searched. This is what Ovid calls a multifile search. Run one of the searches, EMBASE 1980-present, for example.

EMBASE search
Line 1. dogs.ti
Line 2 cats.ti
Line 3. pigs.ti
Line 4. rabbits.ab
Line 5. or/1-4

Line 6. 5 use emez

Line 6 will limit the results of this part of the search to the Embase database only [emez is the 1980-present Embase field code]

Then run another of your individual database searches (Medline 1950-present, for example) with all databases still open.

MEDLINE search
Line 7. dogs.ti,ab
Line 8. cats.hw
Line 9. pigs.mp
Line 10. rabbits.ti,ab,hw
Line 11. or/7-10

Line 12. 11 use mesz

Line 12 will limit the results of this part of the search to the Medline 1950-present database.

Then run any other searches from other databases.

Then OR your results together (Line 6 or Line 12 or …)

Then remove duplicates.

You can also use this feature in other ways. See the example below for limiting specific lines within a multifile search to a specific database by using Ovid database codes.

exp tramadol/ [retrieves items from all databases open]
exp *tramadol/ use emef [retrieves items only from EMBASE]
tramadol.ti,ab,hw use prem,mesz,b10o89 [retrieves items from PreMedline, Medline, Biosis]
